24 hours in Dordrecht

Morning

  • 9 am, arrival. From Dordrecht station it is about a ten-minute walk into the old town. More info under getting here.
  • 9.30 am, coffee by the harbour. Start gently at the Visbrug and the statue of the De Witt brothers.
  • 10 am, Grote Kerk. Admire the choir stalls and, between April and October, climb the tower for the best view in Dordt.
  • 11.30 am, Huis Van Gijn or the Dordrechts Museum. Choose between living around 1900 or art through the centuries.

Afternoon

  • 1 pm, lunch. Around the Voorstraat and the Nieuwe Haven there is plenty of choice. Try something tasty from Dordt too.
  • 2 pm, explore the city. Play the city escape tour The Runaway Sheep (approx. 2.8 km, 12 stops) or follow the free walking route.
  • 4 pm, the old harbours. Stroll along the Wolwevershaven and the Kuipershaven, and read the stories behind them in Streets and harbours.
  • 5 pm, Groothoofd. At the Groothoofdspoort, the Merwede, the Noord and the Oude Maas meet. Grab a terrace table and watch the ships.

Evening

  • 6.30 pm, dinner. Eat by the water or in one of the streets around the Grote Kerk.
  • 8.30 pm, evening stroll or a show. The harbours are at their most beautiful in the evening. Prefer culture? See what’s on at Schouwburg Kunstmin or the Energiehuis, or check the events calendar.
  • Stay the night. From B&B to a hotel in a water tower: see where to stay in Dordrecht.

The next morning: the Biesbosch

Drive or cycle to the Biesboschcentrum Dordrecht and explore the creeks in a silent electric boat, or walk the short Beverbos trail. Read all about the national park under The Biesbosch.
