Privacy policy

Last updated: 12 October 2026. This is a translation; in case of differences, the Dutch version prevails.

Visit Dordt (www.visitdordt.nl) handles your personal data with care. In this privacy policy you can read what data we collect, why we do so and what rights you have under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

What data we process and why

  • Shop orders: your name, address, email address, phone number and order details. We need these to process and ship your order and to keep you informed.
  • Payments: payments are handled by Mollie. We do not receive full bank or card details; Mollie processes them in accordance with its own privacy policy.
  • Contact form: your name, email address and message, so that we can answer your question or tip.
  • Account: if you create an account, we store your login details and the information you enter in your profile.
  • Comments: if you leave a comment, we store the data from the comment form, your IP address and browser user agent to prevent spam.
  • Website statistics: with Jetpack Stats we measure how the site is used, for example which pages are visited. This helps us improve the site.

Cookies

We use functional cookies that are needed for the site and the shopping cart to work and to keep you logged in. Jetpack also places cookies for statistics and security. We do not use advertising cookies.

Third-party services

To run the site we use, among others, WordPress.com/Jetpack (Automattic), WooCommerce and Mollie. On the site we show photos from our Instagram account; when these load, Instagram (Meta) may receive data such as your IP address. Embedded content from other sites behaves as if you were visiting that site yourself. The walking route map is loaded from OpenStreetMap, and the map software (Leaflet) via cdnjs (Cloudflare); these services receive your IP address. The fonts on this site are hosted on our own server, so no connection is made to Google for them.

How long we keep data

We keep order and invoice data for seven years, as required by law (the Dutch tax retention obligation). Messages via the contact form are kept for as long as needed to deal with your question. Account data is kept until you ask us to delete your account.

Who we share data with

We never sell your data. We only share it with parties needed to provide our services, such as the payment provider and the carrier of your order, or when the law requires us to.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, and to object to its processing. You can also ask to receive your data in an export file. To do so, contact us via the contact form. If you disagree with how we handle your data, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

Security

We take appropriate measures to protect your data against misuse, loss and unauthorised access. The site uses a secure connection (https).

Questions

Do you have questions about this privacy policy? Feel free to get in touch via the contact form.

Photo wall: submitting photos

On the Photos of Dordt page you can submit your own photos. For this we ask for your photo, the name to display under it, the place where it was taken and your email address. We only use your email address to contact you about your photo, for example if you took the Photo of the week. We never show it on the website and do not share it with others.

Every photo is reviewed by us before it goes online. We resize the photo and remove the location and camera data contained in the file. To prevent misuse, we store an encrypted (hashed) version of your IP address. Would you like your photo or data removed? Email blaten@visitdordt.nl and we will take care of it.

Weather and maps

For the weather widget on the homepage, your browser fetches the current forecast from Open-Meteo, and for the maps your browser loads map images from OpenStreetMap. As with any website, these services receive your IP address. No cookies are placed.
